| Notariate as employer and trainer To prepare and carry out all official functions the notary needs qualified staff. These are office managers and notarial assistants first and foremost. They are integrated in the entire office organization. It is particularly their task to assist the notary in preparing and implementing deeds, to handle the correspondence and to execute the deeds technically. Fully legally trained staff advise on legal questions arising during the preparation of the deeds.
All staff of the notary too are sworn to strict secrecy. The standard notarial assistant training period is three years. Suitable training candidates have a good feel for dealing with people, have a command of the German language and are confident about their spelling. It is also important to like working in an office and not to shrink from using modern office technology. The ability to reason and pleasure in office management are an advantage as well. Knowledge of foreign languages makes it easier to deal with foreign clients. The profession gives especially competent staff the opportunity to be promoted to the position of office manager and therefore to perform particularly responsible duties.
